After a person recovers from a seizure, they are usually OK if they are awake, alert, and breathing normally. It is necessary to see a health worker afterwards when a person:

• does not regain consciousness (wake up) after or in between seizures.
• has their first seizure.
• has a single or a series of seizures lasting longer than 5 minutes (status epilepticus).
• has a serious wound or injury, severe pain, or bleeding.
• has a fever.
